Booklist Review of The Cloud: Understanding Modern Data Storage
Cloud computing is an abstract concept that many adults don’t even fully grasp, yet this selection from the STEM Is Everywhere! series (6 titles) manages to get the gist of it across in its short page count. It begins by stating, “The cloud is made up of programs, services, and other kinds of data reached through the internet . . . it’s a kind of online storage.” Luckily, for the average reader, this title doesn’t dive too deeply into how the cloud operates, opting instead to sketch out its basic structure, how it came to be, and how it has changed the ways society and business function today; concerns over security and access are also addressed. This helpful, smoothly written resource features colorful pages, stock photos, and a time line.
